Excellent. I was a little hesitant as this was my first time travelling with my larger (~70 lbs) dog but the La Quinta Gainesville was great! Friendly, lots of dogs (all sizes) and great staff. This is exactly 1 block off the interstate, but down a little side street which was nice and quiet (no traffic noise) and across the street from a good little Mexican restaurant (La Fiesta; very reasonable and very good for a quick lunch or dinner away from the pup). Also across the street is a Chinese restaurant...good but more moderate priced (like $20 for a dinner vs. less than $10 at the Mexican), a little slow on service and very dark (lol - leave the sunglasses home!) But the food was good! La Quinta seemed to put all the doggy travellers facing the side street / Mexican restaurant and most people walked their dogs in a long grassy strip between the parking lot and the street. Everyone I saw was good about picking up after their dogs too :} I definitely felt safe at this location -- the sherrifs department is at the end of the block! La Quinta is also 1 - 2 exits away from a dog park which was really an enclosed play area, we ended up walking across the park to an unpaved road and going for a walk on that but I liked the Kanapaha Botanical Gardens, also only 1 - 2 exits away better. During the week, it was a nice 2 1/2 mile walk with the dog. It was way more crowded on the weekend and if your dog doesn't like a million people patting him on the head, I would just go during the week when it's a lot quieter. La Quinta also offers a continential breakfast, bisquits and gravy, make your own waffles, cereal etc. Definitely gets an excellent rating for overall convenience and friendliness -- including welcoming larger dogs without extra fee's etc.
