We stayed at the Monaco for 4 nights in August 2005. The hotel could not have been more welcoming to my two poodles - one large standard, one miniature. A welcome pack of dog treats & toys, water bowls, food dishes, etc were all provided. They ask that you sign a "PAWS" agreement when you check in - giving them your cel phone # and agreeing to return to the hotl immediately if you leave the dogs in the room and the hotel calls you to come back (if the dogs are being disruptive in your absence). Other great dog friendly things in Chicago: Brasserie Jo (walking distance frm the Monaco) is a fine French restaurant that welcomes dogs to the sidewalk cafe portion of the restaurant. They bring the dogs a plate of steak tartare and give them homemade biscuits in a take home container, too. The architectural cruise allows dogs - it was a terrific tour of the city. And the dog beach just about 15 minutes north of the city was so much fun - tons of dogs & owners. a very friendly place where it's easy to meet people.
