I should preface all remarks by stating that this was the very first experience ever for my wife, myself and Dubhthaigh travelling from home and staying overnight. We were worried, but the staff here made us feel very welcome. That helped Dubh a lot to get adjusted. The room was spacious, beautifully appointed and clean and comfortable. It is across from the bus station, but, actually we didn't hear much noise at all, and we were on the first floor in the front of the building. The three of us slept like babies. We spent two days in Portland and found the city to be especially dog friendly. Portland itself is not in the best of shape, but the people who live there couldn't be nicer to visitors. Dubh was welcomed in stores, at galleries, in restaurants, and he met a load of other canines.
we went on to Canada after Portland and then returned to Tennants Harbour where we had the singularly worst hotel experience in our lives, dog or no dog. If you have any experience with Main Line snobbery, you'll get the picture. The service and the attitude were so inhospitable taht we cancelled our stay and came back to the Inn at St John. We were welcomed as old friends, and that put a very positive spin on our vacation. We intend to stay there again this summer.
Restrictions/Fees notes: the fee is nominal, there is a dog walk nearby, and the best parts of the city are within easy walking distance.
